435 WEB WARSBeginning May 19, 2005...
WARNING: Java pages ahead! Stupid midi files too...oh no! Just kidding.
They are being updated.

"Web Wars",
or "Ham Wars" is a goofy Star Wars Parody we started
in 1999. It features the amateur radio operators of the 147.435
Mhz repeater in a Star Wars type theme. At the time there was
a lot of hype about the upcoming release of Star Wars Episode
I The Phantom Menace. Basically it's users of the 435 Repeater
photoshopped into Star Wars pictures. The Idea was not mine actually.
It started when Tim Thompson, W6DCE found these cool Star Wars
applets on the web from IoN CHeN at 6sense.com(no longer available).
Being the huge Star Wars fan that I am, I liked them so much,
I bought them and began using them. The applets were on all the
introduction pages of the Web Wars Section, 7 episodes to date.
We also found these applets by Dario Sciacca www.dseffects.com
(also no longer available) and began incorporating them into the
other pages. Were also using Cool Page for a publisher. These
Java applets by default, no longer work with the security features
in Windows 8, but you can still make them work by adding w6dek.com
as a trusted site in your Java Console. For instructions on how
to do this, go here. Fortunately, George
Lucas has provided us with more modern way of generating the scrolling
test. I will be updating them all as these pages will remain archived
here for nostalgic reasons. The photoshopping of the photos is
rude and crude and I'm no artist. At the time when we started
this section, the theme "Web Wars" or "Ham Wars"
as it has evolved into, began as a "rebuttal" to other
things that were being published by Rick on w6nut.com.
All in all, Rick's site was very creative and funny and the web
wars were fun while it lasted. Now it's more of an archive since
I rarely get a chance to update it. Nor do I have a reason to,
since w6nut.com now belonfs to Gary Elmer, K6GE. Come on back
Rick, the puppetmasters are waiting. If you have any photoshopped
art you would link to contribute you may contact
me and I'll try to get it up on the site. ~ w6dek ~

This is an index of the /webwars/ directory.
The pages are linked as a chain but I will be getting around to
listing them all here...eventually.

These pages have been "restored" updated from their original Java Applets through the use of the Star Wars Scrolling Test Generator. Web Wars Index Page
- Your are here The pages below use the Java Applets described above. Due to security concerns with Java in modern browsers the applets will be "blocked" by default. However, you can still view them. In order for the Java applets to work you must first add w6dek.com as a trusted site in your Java configuration tab. This is a simple fix. For instructions, go here. If only takes a few seconds and it's worth doing in order to view the files as they were back in the day. Web Wars Index Page
